Rep. Mike Lawler’s Message to Working Moms: Pay More, Get Less.

WESTCHESTER, NEW YORK —On National Working Moms Day, Hudson Valley families are facing the consequences of Congressman Mike Lawler’s vote for the Republican Tax Bill. In New York’s 17th Congressional District, more than 66,000 residents rely on SNAP to help put food on the table, including thousands of working mothers raising children. The program delivers more than $155 million in food assistance in the district each year and supports local businesses, generating roughly $238 million in economic activity.

At the same time, Rep. Lawler backed changes to Medicaid that could strip health coverage from as many as 1.2 million New Yorkers statewide—including nearly 100,000 women in the district who depend on Medicaid for basic care. Instead of lowering costs for working families, Rep. Lawler’s vote threatens the food assistance and health care that working moms rely on every day. District 17 deserves better.

“Congressman Mike Lawler wants us to believe that he’s focused on lowering costs for families, but anyone paying attention can see that’s just not true,” said Melita, a mother of four from North Salem. “He might talk a big game about bipartisanship and affordability, but when it comes time to vote, he falls in line and supports the very policies that have caused inflation to skyrocket and prices to go up. Congressman Lawler needs to put his vote where his mouth is and stop raising costs for New Yorkers.”
