Lawler vs. Reality: Three Questions the Congressman Must Answer
WESTCHESTER, NEW YORK — It is clear from Rep. Mike Lawler’s Sunday town hall that he is once again refusing to take accountability for his destructive policies. Empire State Voices is calling for full transparency into his congressional voting record, which puts billionaires first and Hudson Valley families last.
Rep. Lawler has strongly aligned himself with policies his constituents disagree with and voted to rip healthcare away from thousands of NY-17 residents. On Sunday, he tried to run away from his record, but with a record this bad, he can’t hide.
Here are three questions we hoped Mike Lawler would answer at his Town Hall:
Why did you vote for the Republican Tax Law when estimates show the law may destabilize health plans for roughly 1.6 million New Yorkers? Do you just not care about NY-17 residents?
What do you say to the 211,500 NY-17 residents on Medicaid who may lose coverage due to your vote in favor of the Republican Tax Law? Were you thinking of them when you voted for the bill?
How can you vote for a tax law to 'rein in spending' while supporting a war that costs $1 billion a day—especially when that war money could fully fund SNAP benefits for 66,000 people right here in your district?
