Rep. Lawler’s Final Answer? Excuses on Rising Prices and Health Care Cuts

DUTCHESS COUNTY, NEW YORK —  At his May 17 town hall, Rep. Lawler once again refused to come clean for the damage caused by the war in Iran he just supported this week and by the Republican Tax Law he supported — gutting affordable health care and SNAP while Hudson Valley families face rising inflation and higher gas and grocery prices — even as roughly 860,000 New Yorkers, including nearly 28,000 of his own constituents, could lose their health insurance under the law and related federal policy changes.

Here are three questions Rep. Lawler still failed to answer:

● Why did you vote just this week against a War Powers Resolution that would have placed accountability on war in Iran, a war that has caused a 45% surge in gas prices, but gave massive tax breaks to New York's billionaires and giant corporations?

● What do you say to Hudson Valley families now paying more for groceries, household goods, and basic necessities while SNAP and health care are on the chopping block?

● Why did you vote for a law that could destabilize coverage for 1.6 million New Yorkers enrolled in the Essential Plan and leave thousands in your own district without health care coverage?

“For me, this isn’t politics, it’s survival,” said Karen, a NY-17 resident, mother, and caregiver to her 88- and 95-year-old parents. “Medicaid is what allows my parents to stay in their home. When coverage is cut, care doesn’t just get more expensive; it disappears. That’s why I was deeply disappointed Rep. Lawler still had no answer for why he supported $900 billion in Medicaid cuts.”
