Hudson Valley Families Paying More as Lawler-Backed Tax Law Drives Up Energy Costs and Strips Health Care

WESTCHESTER, NEW YORK — Hudson Valley families are facing rising costs across the board as Congressman Mike Lawler backs a Republican Tax Law that is driving up energy prices and is supporting a war that has pushed gas prices more than $1 per gallon higher than this time last year. While Lawler claims he’s lowering costs, he has instead prioritized tax breaks for billionaires and foreign conflicts over affordability for his constituents here at home. Gas prices across New York have surged, with averages in Westchester and Rockland County topping $4.20 per gallon—up from around $3 just a year ago.

“Every time I fill up my tank or open a utility bill, it’s more expensive. Gas is over $4 a gallon now, more than a dollar higher than last year, and it just feels like there’s no relief in sight,” said Paul Diamond, a retired teacher from Suffern. “We’re being squeezed from every direction, higher energy bills, higher health care costs, everything going up at once. And instead of addressing it, Mike Lawler is backing policies that make it worse. He should be focused on lowering costs for families here in the Hudson Valley, not supporting wars overseas or giving tax breaks to billionaires. People like me are the ones paying the price.”

Simply put, working families in NY-17 can’t afford more of Congressman Lawler’s broken policies, and they deserve a representative focused on lowering costs in the Hudson Valley, not escalating conflicts abroad. Rep. Lawler must start fighting to lower costs now; his constituents can’t wait.
