Hudson Valley Caregiver to Rep. Lawler: “Stripping Health Care to Fund the Ultra-Wealthy Is a Betrayal”

WESTCHESTER, NEW YORK — Today, Empire State Voices launched a new ad featuring a NY-17 resident and caregiver calling out Rep. Mike Lawler for voting to cut over $900 billion from Medicaid, putting Hudson Valley families at risk to pay for billionaire tax cuts.
The ad features Karen, a Westchester County resident and cancer survivor caring for her son and aging parents, who depend on Medicaid for round-the-clock care.“I’m doing what so many families in the Hudson Valley are doing, caring for aging parents while trying to hold everything else together. Medicaid is what makes that possible,” says Karen. Congressman Lawler voted to cut it, and families like mine will pay the price. Stripping health care to fund the ultra-wealthy is a betrayal of NY-17 constituents. Rep. Lawler should be supporting more Medicaid funding for New York, not cutting it.”The Republican Tax Law puts 860,000 New Yorkers at risk of losing coverage and threatens the care of the 211,500 people in NY-17 who rely on Medicaid to survive. The law cuts up to $128 billion from New York’s Medicaid program.
“This isn’t politics for me, it’s whether my parents get the care they need to live,” said Karen.
The ad is part of Empire State Voices’ ongoing paid media campaign that highlights the real-world consequences of Rep. Lawler’s votes and elevates the voices of Hudson Valley residents directly impacted by rising costs and threats to their health care.
