War Abroad, Costs at Home: Rep. Lawler Backs Iran Conflict and Health Care Cuts
WESTCHESTER, NEW YORK — As Hudson Valley families face rising costs, Rep. Mike Lawler is backing policies that make life more expensive: supporting a new war with Iran while doubling down on the Republican Tax Law that could strip health care from 28,000 of his own constituents. In a recent interview, Rep. Lawler said, “what the president has done with respect to Iran is the right decision,” aligning himself with a conflict that is driving up costs for Hudson Valley families. Rep Lawler should be fighting for policies that lower prices, not raise them.
The economic impact of the Trump-Iran War is immediate and growing for NY-17 residents. Inflation has risen to 3.3% annually, with prices jumping nearly 1% in a single month and gas up more than $1 per gallon. At the same time, the Republican Tax Law Lawler supports could strip health coverage from nearly 500,000 New Yorkers on the Essential Plan and cut food assistance for the 66,704 people in NY-17 who rely on SNAP.
“I’m already struggling to keep up with rising costs, and now I’m paying more for gas because of this war,” said Michelle, a working mom from NY-17. “At the same time, Rep. Lawler is backing a plan that could take away our health care. He should be fighting for families like mine, not making things harder. Rep. Lawler should be fighting to increase health coverage in the Hudson Valley, not funding new wars in the Middle East.”
Instead of working to lower costs or protect health care, Rep. Lawler is backing an agenda that puts essential health coverage at risk for his own constituents, all to pay for billionaire tax breaks.
