13 DAYS: Congressman Mike Lawler is Running Out of Time to Sign the Health Care Discharge Petition and Lower Premium Costs for His Constituents
If Health Care Tax Credits Are Not Extended Ahead of the December 15 Open Enrollment Deadline, Hudson Valley Families Could See Their Insurance Premiums Double!
HUDSON VALLEY, NEW YORK — With a key Open Enrollment deadline drawing near, Congressman Mike Lawler is running out of time to sign the health care discharge petition and lower premium costs for thousands of his constituents in the Hudson Valley. December 15th marks the last day for New Yorkers to enroll in a plan for coverage beginning on January 1st. If the expiring Affordable Care Act tax credits are not extended by then, working families could see their monthly premiums skyrocket, with some households forced to pay more than double what they paid this year for the same plan.
“After my cancer went into remission and my treatment ended, I found myself unemployed, uninsured, and newly disabled, all while attempting to support two kids as a single mother,” said Tracey, a cancer survivor and former health care tax credit recipient from Pearl River. “The help that I got from the Affordable Care Act tax credits was the only thing that allowed my family to afford health insurance and get through that incredibly difficult period. These credits aren’t some minor bureaucratic footnote—they can literally be a life or death difference for families who fall on hard times. Congressman Mike Lawler needs to start taking this issue seriously and sign the discharge petition for a 3-year extension of the tax credits. The health and safety of thousands of his own constituents depend on it.”
