12 DAYS: Congressman Mike Lawler is Running Out of Time to Sign the Health Care Discharge Petition and Lower Premium Costs for His Constituents

If Health Care Tax Credits Are Not Extended Ahead of the December 15 Open Enrollment Deadline, Hudson Valley Families Could See Their Insurance Premiums Double!

HUDSON VALLEY, NEW YORK —
With a key Open Enrollment deadline drawing near, Congressman Mike Lawler is running out of time to sign the health care discharge petition and lower premium costs for thousands of his constituents in the Hudson Valley. December 15th marks the last day for New Yorkers to enroll in a plan for coverage beginning on January 1st. If the expiring Affordable Care Act tax credits are not extended by then, working families could see their monthly premiums skyrocket, with some households forced to pay more than double what they paid this year for the same plan.

“Between Medicaid cuts, rising prescription drug prices, and now the end of these Affordable Care Act tax credits, the cost of even the most basic health care is going through the roof,” said Zach, a disability services provider from Brewster. “People are running out of options. For some, the loss of these tax credits could be the final straw that forces them off their health insurance entirely, leaving too many families and caregivers unable to access the care they need. Congressman Mike Lawler should be fighting to make health care more affordable for people here in his district, not standing in the way of an extension of such a key lifeline.”
