14 DAYS: Congressman Mike Lawler is Running Out of Time to Sign the Health Care Discharge Petition and Lower Premium Costs for His Constituents

If Health Care Tax Credits Are Not Extended Ahead of the December 15 Open Enrollment Deadline, Hudson Valley Families Could See Their Insurance Premiums Double!

HUDSON VALLEY, NEW YORK —
With a key Open Enrollment deadline drawing near, Congressman Mike Lawler is running out of time to sign the health care discharge petition and lower premium costs for thousands of his constituents in the Hudson Valley. December 15th marks the last day for New Yorkers to enroll in a plan for coverage beginning on January 1st. If the expiring Affordable Care Act tax credits are not extended by then, working families could see their monthly premiums skyrocket, with some households forced to pay more than double what they paid this year for the same plan.

“Without the Affordable Care Act tax credits, I won’t be able to afford my health insurance, and that insurance is the only thing standing between me and a slow, agonizing death,” said Matthew, a type 1 diabetic and health care tax credit recipient from Cold Spring.“My life isn’t a game, and Congressman Mike Lawler needs to stop playing politics with people’s lives. He needs to sign the discharge petition on a 3-year extension of these tax credits. Time is running out, and that discharge petition is the only way to ensure that thousands of families across the Hudson Valley aren’t forced off their insurance and made to go without the critical care that they need.”
