TARIFF TURKEYS: New Yorkers Have Rep. Mike Lawler to Thank for Higher Food Prices this Thanksgiving
Congressman Lawler Has Consistently Voted to Defend Trump’s Tariffs, Raising Food Costs For Hudson Valley Families
HUDSON VALLEY, NEW YORK — This Thanksgiving, New York families across the Hudson Valley will all have one thing not to be grateful for: higher food prices. A new analysis has found that American families will pay nearly 10% more for their Thanksgiving meals this year, thanks in large part to the Trump Administration's sweeping tariffs. Despite promising to lower grocery prices on day one, President Trump’s first year in office has seen prices continue to climb as retailers pass the burden of tariffs onto American consumers.
Despite a near-constant stream of cable news appearances in which he vows to tackle the affordability crisis his constituents are facing, Congressman Mike Lawler is once again all talk and no action. The House of Representatives has had multiple opportunities to block the Trump Administration’s tariffs and lower costs, but at every opportunity, Rep. Lawler has voted to defend the harmful tariff regime, leaving families in his district to suffer the consequences.
“From my Thanksgiving turkey to my weekly trips to the grocery store, food is getting more expensive across the board,” said Melita, a mother of four from North Salem. “These tariffs have done nothing but raise the cost of nearly everything I buy, yet Congressman Lawler seems intent on defending them at every opportunity he gets. He shouts into any microphone that he can find that he’s concerned about the rising cost of living for families in his district, but when it’s time to vote, he defends the policies that are making matters worse. He needs to stop the theatrics and actually get to work lowering our costs.”
Rep. Lawler seems intent on making it harder for Hudson Valley families to put food on the table. In addition to supporting tariffs that raise food prices, he has also repeatedly supported efforts to undermine or restrict New Yorkers’ access to SNAP benefits:
