Hudson Valley Hospitals Brace For Impact Following Rep. Lawler’s Vote for Devastating Healthcare Cuts
NEW YORK — Thanks to the Republican Tax Law, which New York Congressman Mike Lawler helped to pass this July, local hospitals and clinics across the Hudson Valley are now bracing for the impact of more than $100 million in projected federal funding cuts. This reduction in healthcare funding is expected to force service reductions across the region, and might even lead to the permanent closure of some rural facilities.
Despite outcries from healthcare associations and medical professionals across the state, Congressman Lawler has refused to take any accountability for his vote, attempting to cast doubt over the concerns of doctors, nurses, and hospital administrators.
“For Congressman Lawler to try and substitute his uninformed opinion for the expertise of countless doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals across the state is beyond insulting,” said Zach, a disability services provider from Brewster. “Many hospitals and clinics rely on Medicaid funds to stay afloat and maintain access to services. The cuts that Rep. Lawler helped pass into law will force healthcare providers to reduce services or even close their doors completely. That’s not an opinion—that’s a fact.”
