Rep. Lawler Rips Food and Healthcare Away from Millions of New Yorkers
House Republicans Successfully Pass Trump’s Devastating Tax Scam—Gutting Medicaid, Medicare, and SNAP in Favor of Tax Breaks for Billionaires
NEW YORK — Today, House Republicans passed the final version of the Republican Tax Scam, which now goes to President Trump’s desk to be signed into law. New York Congressman Mike Lawler joined his Republican colleagues, voting yet again to strip millions of hardworking New Yorkers of the healthcare and food assistance they rely on. The legislation instead spends trillions of dollars on extending tax breaks for large corporations and the ultra-wealthy.
With his vote, Rep. Lawler turned his back on the nearly 7 million New Yorkers who rely on Medicaid for healthcare and the nearly 3 million who depend on SNAP to feed their families, including hundreds of thousands of his own constituents. Instead of fighting for his district, he chose to toe the party line and rubber-stamp cruelty from the comfort of the back row.
“Today, Congressman Lawler looked his neighbors in the eye and voted to take food from their tables and healthcare from their kids, all so that a handful of billionaires can pocket even more cash,” said Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices. “This bill is about priorities, and today, Rep. Lawler showed us that he is more concerned with toeing the party line and protecting the ultra-rich than standing up for New Yorkers in need. He’ll lie and make empty promises, but when New York families need someone to fight for them, Mike Lawler will fall short. Every. Single. Time.”
