The Republican Tax Law’s Healthcare Cuts are Set to Devastate New York—and it’s Not Just Medicaid That’s in Danger
THE NEW YORK TIMES: Why 1.5 Million New Yorkers Could Lose Health Insurance Under Trump Bill
NEW YORK — A new New York Times report reveals the full scale of devastation New Yorkers could face under the Republican healthcare cuts, threatening not just Medicaid recipients, but the state’s healthcare system as a whole.
The Republican Tax Law slashes funding for Medicaid and SNAP to pay for tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires, but its damage doesn’t end there. The law also repeals a key provision of the Affordable Care Act that sends federal funds to states like New York to expand coverage, putting hundreds of thousands at risk. Over the next decade, as many as 1.5 million New Yorkers could lose their health insurance.
“It seems like every day, we uncover another way this law will hurt the people of New York,” said Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices. “Even if you’re not on Medicaid, this affects you. It means clinics closing, hospitals shutting their doors, and the cost of care rising for everyone. Our friends and neighbors will be left without the care they need. In a moment when families are already rationing prescriptions and skipping doctor visits, this law is a cruel and calculated blow that threatens to hurt us all.”
