ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: Congressman Lawler Needs to Take Action to Prevent More Tariff Insanity

HUDSON VALLEY, NEW YORK — A new study published by the Kiel Institute for the World Economy has found that American consumers are bearing a staggering 96% of the burden of President Trump’s tariffs. Between March and October of last year, New York businesses paid $7.4 billion in tariffs, with the vast majority of those added costs being passed on to consumers. On average, U.S. households paid an extra ‘tariff tax’ of $1,100, with that burden expected to rise to $1,500 in 2026. With the labor market stalling and food and housing prices continuing to climb, the last thing New Yorkers need is even more tariffs!
Congressman Mike Lawler has the power to demand an end to this devastating price hike on New York families. Last year, he joined House Republicans in voting to support President Trump’s disastrous tariffs, blocking Congress’s ability to challenge them through January 31st of this year. With that block to challenges about to expire, Rep. Lawler needs to decide whether he will blindly support this failing policy or demand an immediate end to this tax on New Yorkers.
“Almost every other word out of Congressman Lawler’s mouth is about affordability or the cost-of-living, yet he keeps voting to make our lives more expensive,” said Lynn, a mother of two from Yorktown Heights. “These tariffs have been devastating for families. Prices have gone up on nearly everything we buy. We've even had to start pulling from our retirement savings to make ends meet. This is a tax on New Yorkers, plain and simple, and if Mike Lawler continues to defend it, then none of his talk about affordability means a damn thing. Enough is enough! If Rep. Lawler is really as bipartisan as he claims, it’s time for him to stop toeing the party line and demand an end to this tariff insanity.”
