Rep. Lawler Said He’d Fight to Lower the Cost of Living, But Hudson Valley Families are Paying Even More!

“I can’t even afford some of the healthier snack options for my kids anymore, and have had to start just buying whatever’s cheapest.” - Melita, North Salem

HUDSON VALLEY, NEW YORK —
Despite Congressman Mike Lawler’s near-constant refrain about affordability on his many cable news appearances, families in the Hudson Valley continue to pay more and more for the basic essentials they need to live. According to new data released by the Joint Economic Committee, New York families paid an average of over $2,000 more last year because of inflation.

Whether or not Congressman Lawler says that he cares about lowering the cost of living, it’s his actions and votes that actually matter. In just the past year, Rep. Lawler has voted to cut funding for Medicaid, Medicare, and state health programs, extend massive tax breaks for the wealthy, and support President Trump’s inflationary tariffs. He then capped off the year by refusing to support an extension of critical health care tax credits until it was too late, forcing thousands of his constituents to face skyrocketing insurance premiums.

“Mike Lawler wants us to believe that he’s focused on lowering costs for families, but anyone paying attention can see that’s just not true,” said Melita, a mother of four from North Salem. “He might talk a big game about bipartisanship and affordability, but when it comes time to vote, he falls in line and supports the very policies that have caused inflation to skyrocket and prices to go up. Talk is cheap, but my groceries and rent aren’t. I can’t even afford some of the healthier snack options for my kids anymore, and have had to start just buying whatever’s cheapest. Congressman Lawler needs to put his vote where his mouth is and stop raising our costs.”
