Rep. Lawler is Dragging His Feet on Lowering Health Care Costs While Thousands of His Constituents Suffer
With Insurance Premiums Skyrocketing for Thousands of Hudson Valley Families, New Yorkers are Demanding Immediate Action
HUDSON VALLEY, NEW YORK — As thousands of Hudson Valley families struggle under the weight of a health care affordability crisis, Congressman Mike Lawler continues to fall short of meeting the moment, endorsing President Trump’s ludicrous health care proposal, which does nothing to address skyrocketing insurance premiums and rolls back protections for those with preexisting conditions. Because Rep. Lawler did not act in time, key Affordable Care Act tax credits were allowed to expire, and many New Yorkers are now paying as much as double what they paid last year for the same coverage. Now, rather than working urgently to restore these vital tax credits, Congressman Lawler is once again dragging his feet, talking a big game on cable news while doing nothing of substance.
“Because of Mike Lawler’s stubborn inaction last year, we’re in the midst of a health care crisis here in the Hudson Valley,” said Karen M, a former tax credit recipient from Peekskill. “My wife and I are looking at paying nearly $10,000 more this year because of the lost tax credits. That’s not money we just have lying around. Families like mine are scrambling to figure out how they’re going to pay the bills, yet Rep. Lawler doesn’t seem to grasp the urgency of the moment. He needs to wake up and realize that real people in his district are suffering because of his inaction. We don’t need a bundle of empty promises and ridiculous plans that won’t work; we need him to restore the tax credits that he took from us.”
