Rep. Lawler Continues to Vote to Preserve  SNAP Cuts, Leaving Hudson Valley Families Hungry

WESTCHESTER, NEW YORK — Today, Rep. Mike Lawler voted on a Farm Bill to preserve sweeping cuts made to SNAP by the 2025 Republican Tax Law. The Republican Tax Law– which Lawler proudly supported— included the largest SNAP cuts in history. The House’s vote maintains this unacceptable status quo, cutting food resources as costs rise nationwide.

“Rep. Lawler turned his back on families like mine and voted for a bill that rips food off our tables. Time and again, he’s had the chance to stand up for working New Yorkers, and every time, he chooses billionaires over the people he was elected to represent. The Hudson Valley can’t afford Rep. Lawler’s broken policies,” said Melita, a mother of four from North Salem.

Nearly 28,000 households in Rep. Lawler’s district rely on SNAP, a critical program for his constituents, but as SNAP cuts have begun taking effect, roughly 100,000 New Yorkers have lost access to the program since the Republican Tax Law’s passage. Today’s vote is part of a clear pattern: Rep. Lawler is siding with billionaire interests over the needs of his constituents. In addition to New Yorkers feeling the pain with SNAP cuts, others are feeling the pain with high health care costs, as his support for the Republican Tax Law puts many of the 211,500 NY-17 residents at risk of losing Medicaid coverage and could strip coverage from as many as 860,000 middle-income New Yorkers statewide.
