As SCOTUS Hears Tariff Challenge, New Yorkers Continue to Hurt Under Republican Price Hikes
Congressman Mike Lawler Has Repeatedly Voted to Protect Trump’s Tariffs, Raising the Cost of Nearly Everything His Constituents Buy
NEW YORK — Today, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments challenging President Trump and Congressional Republicans’ tariffs, which have led to sweeping price hikes on all manner of consumer goods. Despite the severe financial pressure put on his constituents and small businesses across the Hudson Valley, Congressman Mike Lawler has repeatedly voted to defend Trump’s tariffs.
With the government shutdown now in its second month, health insurance premiums set to skyrocket, and SNAP food assistance running out of money for 66,000 of Rep. Lawler’s constituents, the people of New York’s 17th congressional district cannot afford yet another economic crisis. It’s time for Rep. Lawler to stop being complicit in this tax on working New Yorkers. It’s time for him to demand an end to this disastrous tariff regime.
"Living in New York has always been expensive, especially with two kids at home, but recently, things have started to get crazy," said Rochelle, a mother of four from Peekskill. "Ever since these tariffs were put in place, everything's just been getting more and more expensive. Whether it's groceries, clothes, or even my utility bill, prices are going up everywhere I look! I don't know who these tariffs are supposed to be helping, but it's certainly not New York families. We need Congressman Lawler to stand up and do his job. It's time to stop supporting this boneheaded policy and fight to remove these tariffs before things get even worse."
