Rep. Lawler Tells Low-Income and Disabled New Yorkers to “Find a Job” or Lose Their Healthcare

The So-Called ‘Moderate’ Continues to Defend Medicaid Cuts—Just Don’t Call Them Medicaid Cuts!

NEW YORK — Following yet another disastrous town hall event this past weekend, Congressman Mike Lawler is back on the media circuit, fighting hard—just not for his constituents. In a conversation with 2WAY, Rep. Lawler defended Republican efforts to implement new work requirements for Medicaid recipients, a move that state officials say would strip healthcare coverage from over half a million New Yorkers.

The Congressman’s statement comes after months of insisting that he would not support any cuts to the Medicaid program. When pressed, an indignant Lawler complained that reporters “keep asking the same stupid fucking question.”

“Congressman Mike Lawler can dance around the issue all he likes, but the fact remains: he’s coming for our Medicaid,” said Audrey, a healthcare worker from Montebello, NY. “What Rep. Lawler is proposing would take away health insurance from over half a million New Yorkers. That’s hundreds of thousands of families across our state unable to access basic, lifesaving healthcare, all because Rep. Lawler wants to pay for more tax breaks for the ultra-rich. If that’s not a cut, I don’t know what is!”
