Rep. Lawler Knows the War is Raising Gas Prices for New Yorkers, But Still Voted to Spend Another $73 Billion Funding It

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Yesterday, Congressman Mike Lawler voted to pass a budget resolution, which allots an additional $73 billion to continue funding the war in Iran. Just this week, gas prices surged above $4 per gallon as new attacks continue, adding to the $432 more families are spending on gas.

Rep. Lawler knows that this war is raising gas prices, but he said that it was “absolutely worth it.”

Lawler’s continued support for the Iran war, Trump’s tariffs, and the Republican Tax Law’s cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and other essential services has made it more expensive to live in New York. And as a result, families across the Hudson Valley are spending $4,500+ on average, and face rising grocery bills, increasingly expensive fuel, and climbing inflation

“Congressman Lawler cut Medicaid funding so billionaires could get tax breaks, and now families are the ones left making difficult decisions between groceries or prescriptions. Now, he’s spending our taxpayer dollars to fund a war overseas, and we’re again left to figure out how to swing a $4/gallon for gas,” said Tracey from Pearl River. “I am sick and tired of feeling stuck with the bill for Mike Lawler’s reckless decisions in Washington.”

“Rep. Mike Lawler has made his priorities crystal clear: it’s more important to fund a war overseas and jack up gas prices at home than to make sure his constituents have access to everyday necessities like healthcare or groceries,” said Mark from Yorktown. “That $73 billion could provide over 210,000 of Lawler’s constituents their SNAP benefits or over 53,000 of his constituents Medicaid. That is unconscionable.”

While Rep. Lawler is willingly making life more expensive for his constituents, entities that Lawler controls paid over $700,000 to the political consulting firm he co-founded. He also received over $35,000 in campaign contributions from companies that went on to receive tax breaks from the very same bill that is hurting Hudson Valley families. Empire State Voices is calling on Rep. Lawler to fight to lower costs for his constituents, not raise them.
