Mike Lawler Sides With Endless War, Not Hudson Valley Families
WESTCHESTER, NEW YORK — Since the war in Iran began, gas prices in New York have surged by nearly $1.50 per gallon, and cost US households over $100 billion. Yet Rep. Mike Lawler has continually voted against a bipartisan War Powers Resolution that would have constrained the conflict and has proudly defended skyrocketing gas prices caused by the war as “absolutely worth it.”
For Hudson Valley families, those costs are anything but worth it.
A driver filling a 15-gallon tank today pays roughly $22.50 more per fill-up than before the war. For commuters already struggling with rising grocery bills, housing costs, and inflation, every trip to the gas station means less money for food, child care, rent, and other essentials.
Plus, Lawler backed the Republican Tax Law's cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, which will likely start to take effect this summer, and will push thousands of Lawler’s constituents off their health coverage. Simply put, as Lawler lives the high life off corporate campaign donations, he’s leaving NY-17 residents to rot.
“Rep. Lawler spent years complaining about rising gas prices and the cost of living. Now gas prices are up nearly $1.50 a gallon, families are paying more for groceries and everyday necessities, and he's defending the very policies making life harder for people like me,” said Melita, a mother of four from North Salem. “Rep. Lawler turned his back on families like mine and voted for a bill that rips food off our tables. Time and again, he's had the chance to stand up for working New Yorkers, and every time, he chooses billionaires over the people he was elected to represent. The Hudson Valley can't afford Rep. Lawler's broken policies.”
Empire State Voices is launching a monthly series of actions at gas stations throughout NY-17 to hold Rep. Mike Lawler accountable for rising costs and his support for policies that are making life more expensive for Hudson Valley families. The first rally took place on Tuesday in Tarrytown; additional actions will be held on the third Tuesday of each month. To learn more about Empire State Voices, contact press@empirestatevoices.org
