House Votes to Stop the War in Iran As Diesel Costs Hit An All-Time High
HUDSON VALLEY, NY — For months, prices at the pump have been spiking, forcing more and more Hudson Valley families to make difficult decisions between putting food on the table or fuel in the tank. The average New York household is spending $605 more on regular fuel, and just last week, diesel fuel hit an all-time high of $6 a gallon nationwide.
Last night, the House passed a resolution to end the war in Iran that continues to drive up costs for New Yorkers. Rep. Mike Lawler, however, voted in favor of continuing the war. But these increasingly high diesel costs have implications beyond the pump, including:
Farmers and fishers won’t be able to afford operating their machinery, and supply chains will be impacted.
Food distribution costs will rise, forcing grocers to raise prices on everyday essentials.
The cost of heating oil will rise, and New Yorkers will keep getting higher and higher utility bills.
“I am already having to think twice every time I fill up my tank these days, and the longer this war goes on, the more expensive gas and diesel will get,” said Richard from Montebello. “My favorite part of living in the Hudson Valley is the small businesses and industries that make us so great, and from farming to tourism, every industry that makes the Hudson Valley so special relies on diesel. They need these prices lowered to continue operating and keep our community going.”
Simply put, diesel is the primary source of fuel for almost everything: from freight trucks and trains to construction and farming equipment. And when the cost of diesel goes up, containers, tractors, trains, and mine trucks get more expensive to run, so does the cost of our everyday items.
