Ahead of Energy Efficiency Day, Here’s Your Reminder That Hudson Valley Utility Costs Are At An All-Time High
HUDSON VALLEY, NY — This National Energy Efficiency Day, Hudson Valley families continue to struggle with record-high energy costs. Energy prices are up 10 % since 2025, and New Yorkers are paying $190 more for electricity, the third-highest residential rate in the country. As a result, families chose not to cool their homes during one of the hottest summers on record, and others are taking out loans to front the cost of their utility bill.
A recent report from Energy Innovation confirms that, as a result of Republican policies like the Republican Tax Law and the ongoing war in Iran, energy costs will rise across the board:
New York households will spend $37 billion on energy, upwards of $400 per household.
The state will experience cuts to domestic manufacturing and innovation that slow economic growth.
Gas and diesel prices will continue spiking, driving up costs for individuals and small businesses alike.
In September, the House passed a resolution to end the war. Congressman Mike Lawler supported the Republican Tax Law and voted in favor of continuing the war.
“In the past year, I have spent over $2,000 on electricity. That’s unheard of, and the added expense is eating into my budget for other everyday expenses like gas and groceries,” said Alan from Brewster. “Our leaders in Washington must come together and find a solution, because we need relief before a long and pricey winter.”
“I run a local technology advisory here in the Hudson Valley, and the utility bill is slowly becoming one of our highest operational costs,” said Joe, a small business owner in Mt. Kisco. “As these prices get higher and higher, I don’t want to have to choose between making my customers comfortable and being able to afford my bills.”
For so many New Yorkers struggling with rising energy costs, finding ways to save on their utility bills is increasingly important. Read more about how to be energy efficient and save on energy costs here.
