A Year After Lawler’s Illegal Tariffs: Your Wallet Has Entered a Recession

Hudson Valley residents to Rep. Lawler: “Give us our money back.”

WESTCHESTER, NEW YORK — Now, one year after so-called “Liberation Day,” when President Trump—with Rep. Lawler’s support—implemented sweeping tariffs, Hudson Valley families are stuck footing the bill: an estimated $1,744 a year in New York. As a consequence, grocery and household essentials have risen across New York, yet Rep. Lawler continues to vote for the policies raising prices and putting billionaire interests above NY-17 residents. Hudson Valley families can’t afford any more Lawlernomics.

Hudson Valley residents and small business owners are speaking out—demanding accountability. Hudson Valley residents are calling on Rep. Lawler to reverse course: return the money illegally taken from constituents through higher prices and put an end to the tariffs that continue to drive up costs.

“Every week, I see prices creeping higher—groceries, supplies, everything. It adds up fast,” said Paul, a retiree from Suffern and constituent. “These tariffs aren’t helping retirees like me—they’re making it harder to get by. Rep. Lawler supported this, and we’re the ones paying for it. It’s time to focus on lowering prices and stop these cost-raising policies.”

“I ran a small business for most of my life, so I know how quickly rising costs hit. Now I’m retired, and I’m seeing the same thing at home—higher grocery bills, higher energy costs, less in my wallet,” said Alan, a retired small business owner and NY-17 resident. “That’s the reality of these tariffs; Rep. Lawler needs to stop supporting destructive taxes and start supporting his constituents.”
