8 DAYS: Congressman Mike Lawler is Running Out of Time to Sign the Health Care Discharge Petition and Lower Premium Costs for His Constituents

If Health Care Tax Credits Are Not Extended Ahead of the December 15 Open Enrollment Deadline, Hudson Valley Families Could See Their Insurance Premiums Double!

HUDSON VALLEY, NEW YORK —
With a key Open Enrollment deadline drawing near, Congressman Mike Lawler is running out of time to sign the health care discharge petition and bring the three-year health care tax credit extension up for a vote to lower premium costs for thousands of his constituents in the Hudson Valley. December 15th marks the last day for New Yorkers to enroll in a plan for coverage beginning on January 1st. If the expiring Affordable Care Act tax credits are not extended by then, working families could see their monthly premiums skyrocket, with some households forced to pay more than double what they paid this year for the same plan.

Republican Rep. Glen Grothman just stated in an interview that the three-year extension would pass the House if it came up for a vote—Rep. Lawler has the power to make that happen.

“Congressman Lawler has acknowledged that health care has become unaffordable for working New Yorkers, yet he refuses to do the bare minimum required to address the issue,” said Zachary Tirgan, Regional Organizing Director for Empire State Voices.“The House discharge petition is only four votes away from passing, and would extend key health care tax credits to lower New Yorkers’ premium costs for three years. Even other House Republicans have admitted that the bill would pass if brought to the House floor, yet Rep. Lawler refuses to take any action to help his constituents. It’s time for Congressman Lawler to stop making excuses and sign the health care discharge petition.”
