Rep. Lawler Fails to Support Any Effort to Lower New Yorkers’ Healthcare Costs!
Rep. Lawler Voted for a Republican Funding Resolution, Shunning Efforts to Roll Back Medicaid Cuts and Stop Increases In Health Insurance Costs
NEW YORK — Congressman Mike Lawler just voted to pass a continuing resolution that threatens the health and safety of thousands of his constituents, doing nothing to roll back the vast cuts to Medicaid and state health programs that Republicans passed into law earlier this year. The Republican measure also fails to provide any extension for the expiring healthcare tax credits that hundreds of thousands of New York families rely on, leaving thousands of Lawler’s constituents to face higher health insurance costs or to lose coverage altogether .
“Congressman Mike Lawler just voted to continue on a path that raises the healthcare costs of tens of thousands of his constituents because he was too afraid to stand up to party leadership and actually fight for working New Yorkers,” said Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices. “This government funding resolution does absolutely nothing to address the devastating cuts to Medicaid and state health programs, nor does it extend the tax credits that hundreds of thousands of New York families rely on to afford health insurance. If Rep. Lawler wanted to represent his constituents, he would actually fight to lower our costs, not just toe the party line.”
