Trump’s Tariffs are Raising Costs for New York Families, and Rep. Mike Lawler is to Blame!
NYTimes: U.S. Inflation Report Shows Effects of Trump’s Tariffs
NEW YORK — New data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that core consumer prices rose at their fastest pace in five months this July, as President Trump’s reckless tariffs forced more businesses to raise prices on everyday goods. Furniture, appliances, children’s clothing, footwear, and even airfare saw some of the steepest jumps, piling new costs onto working New York families already struggling to make ends meet.
These price hikes are the direct result of Donald Trump’s failed economic policies, enabled by the Republican-controlled House and Senate. Trump’s blanket tariffs, rubber-stamped by New York Republicans like Representative Mike Lawler, act as a tax on working people, driving up the cost of basic household needs while job growth slows.
“Rep. Lawler voted to give up Congress’s power to stop these tariffs, and now New Yorkers are paying the price,” said Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices. “At a time when families are facing higher costs and fewer job opportunities, the last thing they need is Washington making life even more expensive. With his vote, Congressman Mike Lawler owns these tariffs and the inflation that comes with them. Rep. Lawler is raising costs on working New York families because he refuses to stand up to Donald Trump and actually fight for his constituents.”
