Highway Banners in Nyack and Pearl River Call on Congressman Lawler to Stop Voting to Raise New Yorkers’ Health Care Costs

“The people of Rockland are hurting, and we’re pleading with Rep. Lawler to listen.” -Tracey, Pearl River

NYACK & PEARL RIVER, NEW YORK —
Today, keen-eyed commuters on the Tappan Zee Bridge and Palisades Interstate Parkway may have spotted one of two banners hung by local residents, calling on Congressman Mike Lawler to stop voting to raise New Yorkers’ health care costs. Despite the Rockland County representative’s hollow promises to lower costs, Rep. Lawler has nonetheless fallen in line with House Republicans and voted to cut health care funding, raising the cost of care for thousands of his constituents.

“When parents are lying awake at night, petrified that a single medical emergency might spell financial ruin for their family, something is seriously wrong,” said Tracey, a single mother and cancer survivor from Pearl River, who calls on Congressman Lawler to stop voting to increase health care costs in a new digital ad. “Congressman Lawler acknowledges that we’re facing a health care affordability crisis, yet he continues to vote to cut funding for the very programs and services that allow his constituents to afford the care they need. That’s unacceptable. He needs to stop playing politics with our lives and actually stand up to his party for once. The people of Rockland are hurting, and we’re pleading with Rep. Lawler to listen.

Last summer, Rep. Lawler helped pass the Republican Tax Law, which cut over $1 trillion from Medicaid, the Essential Plan, and other health care spending across New York. In total, these cuts are expected to force around 860,000 New Yorkers off their health insurance, potentially leading dozens of rural hospitals and clinics across the state to reduce services or even close their doors entirely. Rep. Lawler then decided to drag his feet and refused to support a three-year extension of expiring Affordable Care Act tax credits until it was too late, forcing thousands of Hudson Valley residents to face skyrocketing health insurance premiums in 2026.
