STOP RAISING OUR HEALTH CARE COSTS: Frustrated New Yorkers Blanket Pearl River and Nyack With Yard Signs

“Congressman Lawler seems to have no interest in actually listening to the constituents he swore an oath to represent.” -Tracey, Pearl River

PEARL RIVER & NYACK, NEW YORK —
Today, frustrated New Yorkers spread out across the towns of Pearl River and Nyack, knocking on doors and putting up lawn signs demanding that Congressman Mike Lawler stop voting to raise health care costs for Hudson Valley Families. Despite the Rockland County representative’s hollow rhetoric about working across the aisle to address the health care affordability crisis, his actual record is far less impressive: toeing the party line while voting to cut health care funding and raise New Yorkers’ costs.

“No matter how many times we visit his office or attend his town halls, voicing our concerns, Congressman Lawler seems to have no interest in actually listening to the constituents he swore an oath to represent,” said Tracey Obenauer, a single mother and cancer survivor from Pearl River, who calls on Congressman Lawler to stop voting to increase health care costs in a new digital ad. “He promises to lower our costs, then turns around and votes to raise them, cutting the very programs that families like mine rely on to access the care they need. Talk is cheap, but Rep. Lawler’s record speaks louder than he ever could. Maybe by putting up these signs right here in Pearl River, we’ll finally get our message through to him.”

Last summer, Rep. Lawler helped pass the Republican Tax Law, which cut over $1 trillion from Medicaid, the Essential Plan, and other health care spending across New York. In total, these cuts are expected to force around 860,000 New Yorkers off their health insurance, potentially leading dozens of rural hospitals and clinics across the state to reduce services or even close their doors entirely. Rep. Lawler then decided to drag his feet and refused to support a three-year extension of expiring Affordable Care Act tax credits until it was too late, forcing thousands of Hudson Valley residents to face skyrocketing health insurance premiums in 2026.
